Major Makeover On 25th Anniversary of Google IMAGES

Google IMAGES

Google Images turned 25 on 14th July this year, and what it released on its anniversary is more interesting than the celebration.

The search engine has started integrating image generation features into the AI overview and indicated some overhaul in Google Image Search.

It was disclosed through a blog titled “Celebrating 25 Years Of Visual Search Innovation” by Brad Kellett, Senior Engineering Director, Google Search.

This development, which involves integrating 2 new features into existing Google services, has multifaceted impacts as well.

1. Revamping Google Images Interface

In the blog post, Google has mentioned changes in the Google Images section. Now it will show the results in real time, and they will be more personalized.

The notable features added are that you can save images you are interested in and browse that collection to continue searching for any pic you like.

This feature will be rolled out in the US in the coming week, but right now it will be available only on the desktop.

2. Image Generation In Google AI Overview

Google has informed in the same blog post and also through the post on X about integrating image generation into its AI overviews.

The post says:

It simply means you write the prompt in the Google search bar and get the image in the AI overviews.

This will use Nano Banana 2 Lite to form the images and get them in your search results.

Here’s how it will work.

First, you enter the prompt according to what’s in your mind.

Then an AI-generated image will appear in the AI overview.

This will somehow reduce the visiting AI mode, Gemini, or VEO3, to get the images for the text.

Possible Outcomes

These improvements in Google’s visual domain have multifaceted impacts, such as:

  1. Will further simplify image generation.
  2. Good for quick illustrations.
  3. Save time and effort for the user.
  4. Provide more personalized feeds.

A pain point here is that it might impact image generation and image stock websites like Shutterstock and Pinterest.

However, people will visit such sites to get more natural and real photos or make sharper and improved pictures through AI image generation websites.

There is no fixed date for rolling out these features. Google will release them in a phased manner. So you might just get these features on your Google AI search anytime.

Google has been releasing new updates and improvements every month. Like strengthening disclosure rules in Google Ads earlier this month. All these changes are to make the user more aware and assist in their search experience.

How the SEO Community Responded?

As these features are yet to appear, the SOE community has not responded to them.

Nick Fox, senior vice president of Knowledge & Information at Google, has informed in the X conversation that this feature will be available on Android too, which will further expand its scope.

To get more clarity, we need to wait for its complete rollout.

In a Nutshell

Google has been working on improving the search experience; for example, releasing the Search Live feature last year to make searches more conversational and interactive. All these hint at Google’s endeavor to make search simpler and more productive.

We can expect a more comprehensively integrated Google ecosystem in the coming times.

Let’s wait and watch.
