Need to Re-structure Content for AI Visibility

A recent study has come up with the inference that the AI bot activities have surged by 300% in 2025. Considering the trend, this count might go up even higher in the coming years.

But do you know that the content strategy for generative AI differs from the one applied for search engine rankings?

Is There A Need to Re structure Content for AI Visibility

This variation is due to the difference in the algorithm the AI bot uses, which demands re-engineering your content.

Addressing this issue requires understanding how the generative AI algorithm works and the relevant applicable strategy.

Understanding The AI Algorithm

Generative AI uses Machine Learning and Natural Language models to answer the query without presenting the related long list of webpages.

Here is the step-wise process of how the generative AI derives an answer to your query.

User makes a query

Query broken into relevant pieces through tokenization and keyphrase identification

Understand the intent using its knowledge base

Construct an answer for all the parts

Present a comprehensive answer to the query.

AI focuses more on answering with more direct and concise solutions, whereas the search engines focus more on overall coverage of the topic.

Another thing to understand is that AI doesn’t follow ranking. It provides avenues for citations.

For example, you ask the same question 5 times on an AI chatbot. It will give different answers to it all 5 times and will also cite different pages in every attempt. So here visibility matters more than ranking, i.e., you need to aim to stay in those citations rather than targeting the top position.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and Alphabet, has also stated that Google AI Overviews are more opinionated than they should be. This means they don’t follow rankings by heart, but focus on relevance and probabilities.

Ultimately, the generative AI works on pattern, consensus, freshness, and authority, which cumulatively impact the visibility.

So what is required for AI optimisation?

  1. Be specific.
  2. Go with fewer words, more meaning
  3. Pot for the first answer, then explain the approach

The Magic Pill: According to Ahrefs, 76% of the AI overview citations are extracted from the top 10 ranking pages. So maintaining authority through traditional SEO still matters.

Tweaks To Make In Content For AI

Here we will talk specifically about what improvements we can make in the content to make it visible on the AI.

Here is the 7-point strategy for it.

  1. Answer the Doubt Right Away: Your heading should be structured like a question, and the beginning of the para must contain the direct, crisp, and understandable answer to it in one line.
  2. Support Your Statement: You can use dependable research, studies, surveys, etc to support your answer. Remember, a statement without support is just a notice. Rather than writing “people are using electric cars”, you may go with “30% of people have switched to electric cars.” A simple tweak makes the difference.
  3. Update Content: Freshness is another aspect that the RAG technique of AI favors. New content might appear in citations a few times, but if it is not updated regularly, other pages with recent information will replace it.
  4. Add HQ Images and Videos: Google itself has suggested incorporating high-quality images and videos into the content to make the content more understandable to the user and to make it generative AI-friendly.
  5. Focus on User Demand: Here, reverse engineering works best. Whenever you write something, understand the user’s perspective: what might be their intent behind this query, and what other doubts related to it might appear in their mind.
  6. Ensure E-E-A-T: It is something Google considers the backbone of the content. Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness are to remain at the core of your content, or else it will escape AI visibility.
  7. Ensure Topical Authority: Let’s take an example. Suppose you are writing about “How To Make A Podcast?” and you cover the procedure and wind up the topic. Then it won’t live up to the parameters of AI. You need to cover the equipment used, background variations for different niches, suggest the editing software, etc. It means aggregating all dimensions across the topic is highly required.

Also, it is advisable not to follow any manipulative strategy to deceive AI citation. This might attract a penalty as perceived from Google’s June 2026 spam update

Way Forward

It’s the right time to approach both the search engines and the AI platforms to attract traffic by developing content that matches their requirements. The rationale is that the root of both is grounded in traditional SEO coupled with adjustments to contemporary trends.
