Google Ads Healthcare Policy News

This year, Google has updated several provisions in ads and merchant policies.

In April this year, Google published an update statement titled “Update to Google Ads Healthcare and Medicines Policy (April 2026)” that mandated

  1. Online pharmacies in India to get themselves certified by LegitScript’s Healthcare Merchant Certification Program.
  2. Ads and landing pages targeting India are prohibited from promoting prescription medications.
  3. After LegitScript certification, advertisers must apply to Google.

After a few months, Google again released “Update to Healthcare and Medicines Policy (July 2026)” to allow telemedicine providers to promote prescribed drug services specifically in Spain.

Also, violations of the norms will follow a warning, ignoring which will lead to account suspension.

These are supplements to certain other regulations, such as

  1. Stricter verification requirements for mental health advertisers.
  2. Including more addiction-related keywords requiring certification
  3. Tougher norms for generic and vague information in ads and landing pages with healthcare terms.

Besides, there has been certain unverified information about stricter Google Review Policy 2026 rules for healthcare businesses as well.

Other Related Developments

Some other similar updates have been forwarded by Google linked to public health.

It announced updates to include alcohol in the physical goods subscription policy for eligible merchants in the US. However, it has also been clarified that compliance with the Alcohol Beverage Policy is mandatory for that.

Likewise, its Recurring billing policy expansion update provided for allowing certified merchants to promote prescription drugs with recurring billing and bundled services in the United States.

Google has also released updates about how advisors can use the prescription drug term in their landing pages, ads, and keywords. It called for stricter regulation over ads and landing pages using the active ingredients and prescription drug names, which must also adhere to local laws.

All these somehow align with Google’s tightened disclosure rules for ads.
