Performance Max 2026: The New Controls, Reporting and Other Updates Advertisers Should Know

Performance Max Update

Google has released an article titled “New Performance Max steering and reporting updates coming in 2026”, hinting at some key developments concerning the control and reporting updates for advertisers.

However, certain other improvements are also in the pipeline, which were notified in past weeks and months.

The updates will roll out gradually but have already begun attracting responses from advertisers and digital marketers since the announcements were made.

1. Exclude First-Party Audience

Google Performance Max now provides the feature to exclude a particular customer list. This is to allow the advertiser to access a wider window to target the right audience and divert budget to new audiences rather than retargeting successful conversions.

This will further improve the targeting and ensure better use of budget.

2. Easy Access To Budget Report

The next update linked to it is that advertisers can now access the budget report directly in the Performance Max Campaign, with all sections like monthly spend, daily spend, and a visualization chart.

These new tweaks will help advertisers understand the audience, predict the budget, and grasp how daily budget changes influence the performance of the ad campaign.

3. Full Audience Report

Google is also revamping the audience reporting by incorporating segment-level performance and demography sections.

It will have sections like age, gender, household income, and parental status, through which advertisers can filter the results and understand demography-based performance of campaigns.

4. Segregate Placement Reports By Network

Another major development in Google’s AI Performance Max is that users can segregate placement reports based on networks.

Earlier, the insights were limited to the products shown over Google Search through Performance Max campaigns and Standard Shopping campaigns, which showed an incomplete picture of the actual performance.

This will show the ad campaign performance and also ensure more visibility.

Other Updates

Besides the above-mentioned updates, Google is also working on multiple fronts to enhance the effectiveness of ad campaigns and centralize the features for elevating convenience.

Here are some other developments in this domain that advertisers must stay aware of to make the best use of the evolving features.

1. Text Customisations in Performance Max

Google has updated the help doc in Performance Max, aiming at providing broader opportunities for text customisations.

This means now Google can generate headlines and descriptions by taking inspiration from the landing pages, currently active ads, and demos.

For this, Secorce, a renowned digital marketing firm, has suggested focusing on and maintaining good landing pages, adding assets and brand messages to give good fodder material to Performance Max to generate intriguing headlines.

2. Local Services Ads Dashboard Integrating into Performance Max

Google has reported that in the coming years, it will migrate the Local Services Ads dashboard into the Performance Max of Google Ads. This will begin in August this year and will be completed by next year.

Here, the advice of Chris Westmeyer, CEO and Founder at Digital Strike, is worth mentioning, who suggested immediately putting “Export Performance History” on the list if you are using the Local Services Ads dashboard.

Sum Up

The contemporary improvements in the domain of ad campaigns, including the above-mentioned and others such as stricter disclosure rules for ads, are making advertising easier and AI-assisted.

We can further expect more revisions and shufflings in the features and tools in the coming times.
